Torture Porn - Short Film Review

by Patrick "ChoKo" Robertson

A spoof/satire of torture-horror films such as Saw and Hostel, Patrick Rea's short Torture Porn may actually satisfy you more than the aforementioned films.

Torture Porn opens in a warehouse-type room, reminiscent of Hostel, where we see a man gagged and bound to a chair. Another man enters the room and attempts to torture the man in the chair, but doesn't have very much luck in doing so. I'm not the biggest fan of the torture-porn sub-genre, so I really love how this film pokes fun at it. I don't want to give too much away, but the twist ending will give you a chuckle and leave you feeling as if you just watched a very bizarre and offbeat episode of The Twilight Zone.

Torture Porn really surprised me, as far as it's quality is concerned. This film is shot, lit, and directed better than most mainstream horror films that are released theatrically these days. I haven't seen any other short film that looks as cinematic and polished as this.

Smart, funny, and atmospheric, Torture Porn is a very well-rounded, well-made, film.
