The Horror Enthusiast Hall of Fame
Worst Heroine in a Major Horror Franchise
Monica Keena in Freddy vs. Jason

by FuckEm

One of the many things that killed Freddy vs. Jason for me was the horrendous acting. Those who love to say bad acting in a Horror film has no consequences should look no further than this film for evidence to the contrary. Perhaps the biggest offender of this was Monica Keena, who played heroine Lori Campbell. I have never had a genuine dislike for a character quite like I did for Lori. With her always pouted lips, bewildered facial expressions, and almost plastic appearance; it shouldn't be hard to see why. As an Elm Street girl, she was a disgrace. The Friday The 13th films had stronger female leads than Lori, as well. Someone was definitely using their head when they cast Lori, but not the one on their shoulders.

To make things worse, Lori was supposed to be a virgin; but one who wears skin tight pants and a comical push-up bra for most of the film. Clearly, this was parody material. But, apparently, no one let Monica in on the joke; as she had the following to say about her character in the film: "In many horror movies from the past, the women have always just been sex objects, there only to look pretty and get murdered. But my character is the leader and the strongest person in the group. It's exciting; it's like an action movie. It's a very strong part for a young woman. I felt like Lara Croft."

She may have felt like Lara Croft but, to steal a line from ChoKo, she looked more like Jenna Jameson. Lori was an airhead and in no way strong. How does having your Boyfriend lead you around by the hand for almost the entire film make a character strong? Reminds me of the "logic" apologists for this film use when they say Lori was a good character because she had big tits.

We here at The Horror Enthusiast take great pride in inducting Lori Campbell and Monica Keena into our Hall Of Fame as the undisputed worst heroine in a major Horror franchise!
